Twitter Decorum And Networking

"WE GET PAID FOR BRINGING VALUE TO THE MARKETPLACE" JIM ROHN

Social media is still a new frontier for many marketers. With the emergence of what seems like an inordinate amount of social sites and tools, figuring out how to get started and ramp up your efforts with social media marketing can be confusing. So you’ve set up your Facebook page, Google+ page, and your Twitter profile…now what?

Here are 6 quick tips to set your organization up for social success:

1) Unless you are speaking directly to someone on Twitter, be sure to put a character before someone’s Twitter handle when tweeting at or about him/her.

2) Hashtags are your friend and your enemy.

3) Share other people’s content (OPC)!

4) Create lists to segment and enhance your relevance.

5) Repost your posts

6) Take LOTS of pictures

There is a social media decorum that if honored will reap social media marketing rewards. In regards to Twitter that social media decorum  involves sharing other's content and being conversational. Believe it or not one can be conversational even in the extremely fast moving Twitter feed by the use of the "@" character and can extend the life  and increase the listing of your Tweets by the "#" character. Re-Tweeting other's Twitter posts get's their attention and help's share their value content with others. It is also appropriate to Re-Tweet some of your own posts if they are still relevant, again due to the fast moving Twitter feed. Creating and subscribing to Twitter lists enable you to target various keywords, brands and personalities. Following Twitter decorum can mean greater effectiveness with Twitter networking.

Don't Underestimate Twitter

A Global Reason To Use Twitter

We now reside and engage on a planet where 2 billion people have connections to the web and over 5 billion have mobile phones. On this web we share and socialize with friends and family. We also socialize online with complete strangers in foreign lands.

Why do we socialize and share with complete strangers online?

Have you ever joined a group because you you loved cars, photography or painting?  When you turned up for the first time did you feel that you belonged and said “This is my tribe!”

Twitter can connect you to a global tribe of people with similar interests and passions. It can provide a world wide community where the creativity and ideas flow in real time and inspire you to be the best and to learn at a level that your local school could never do.

When you communicate you can do it privately in a direct message (DM) or you can share it publicly your thoughts, findings and links via an open tweet.

Twitter connects you to a global world of hyper specialization that many do not even know exists. This is a world where niches become micro niches that you will not find in your local town.

Twitter may seem less valuable than Facebook  or LinkedIn when it comes to social media marketing because of it's 140 character limit and very short timeline life but surprisingly Twitter is a genuinely effective tool in social media marketing if you target who you follow and Tweet in the optimum times for posting on Twitter. The modest use of Twitter "#hashtags" can make your posts found in Twitter searches for specific subjects and the modest use of "direct messages  and "ReTweets" can get the attention of others very easily. Don''t underestimate the power of Twitter.

I like many others have found Twitter to be a great social media marketing tool. A lot can be said in 140 characters and despite the volume and speed of Twitter posting or "Tweets" your posts do get read and if you have links, those links do get traffic. A key point for me in using Twitter in marketing is to follow mostly people who are also marketers or people you feel might be interested in the product or service you promote. Just because someone follows you doesn't mean you have to follow them because even on Twitter the quality of your followers is more important than the quantity of your followers. If you haven't done so already, and surprisedly there are many online marketers that don't have a Twitter account, you need to get your "Tweets" on.

Real Time Social Media

Twitter is often seen as one of Cinderella’s ugly sisters when it is compared to the multimedia beauty and the wealth of numbers that the 800 million plus engaged users that the Facebook social network offers.

Facebook is the girlfriend you would be happy to take home to dinner with your parents but Twitter is often seen as a bit too quirky, strange and cheap to introduce to the family and folks.

Too short and dumpy for most.

If you take the time to get to understand Twitter with its quaint 140 character limit and its charming simplicity, it can be a very powerful tool to distribute information and ideas in real time to enhance your marketing and promotion efforts.

Twitter has some advantages that are sometimes not seen as a strength.

1. Simple

2. Focused and Targeted

3. Highly Shareable

Twitter is probably looked at by many as of little value to online marketers compared to Facebook or LinkedIn but that is an inaccurate assumption. Twitter has come a long way from the early Tweets about what we had for breakfast. Now the Twitter micro-blogs are made to targeted audiences in specific niches. If you only follow network marketers then all your followers will be network marketers inclined to read and respond to many of your network marketing Tweets. Re-Tweeting or others re-Tweeting your Twitter posts is what can make Twitter into a viral marketing machine. There is still a need to be sociable on Twitter and not be "spammy" but Twitter is a powerful "real time" social media medium to promote our Biz-Ops, programs and websites. We neglect Twitter to our own detriment.
