Social Media Synergy

Ever feel like you’re posting the same old stuff on your Facebook page

Here are some hints on creating popular wall posts that friends will want to read, like and comment on.

Maybe the best way to approach this subject is to first understand that as Facebook ages, it’s becoming challenging for users to attract attention at all.

So, how do you hook friends or fans into reading, liking and commenting on your posts—making you the popular one on Facebook?

After all, you’re taking time out of your busy (or not) day to put something up, so you might as well maximize your efforts.

Here are some tips on creating the most popular wall posts.

1. Foster Conversations

2. Be Original

3. Know Your Friends’ Interests

4. Be Positive

5. Use Familiar Language

6. You, Not I Nor Me

7. Ask Your Friends For Input

Our Facebook walls, either on our profile, Fan Page or Group is the essence of what we do on Facebook. The best Facebook walls are interactive walls with input from others, not just are own posts but also posts, likes and comments from others. I now have the goal of becoming more active on other's Facebook walls with the possibility they they will reciprocate by visiting and sharing on my Facebook wall, something called "social media synergy", I think.

Don't Play Facebook Cheap

As marketers include social media as part of their overall strategy, 97% agree that it provides benefits and value to their business.

In a survey of more than 700 marketers worldwide, 88% of respondents told Wildfire Interactive, a social media marketing software company, that social media helps grow brand awareness. Social media also benefited marketers by allowing them to engage in dialogue (85%) and increase sales and partnerships (58%). An additional 41% of marketers said it helped reduce costs.

While marketers look at the overall benefits of social media, they are also drilling deeper to determine the value of Facebook fans in particular. Among respondents to Wildfire's survey, 44% said Facebook fans are valuable because they help with new customer recruitment. Additionally, 18% said Facebook fans have higher conversion rates and another 18% noted that they make more frequent purchases.

More and more businesses and entrepreneurs are seeing the tremendous value of social media marketing. It is also more and more obvious from real time statistics,  that the King of Social Media Marketing is Facebook. It has been my personal observation that marketers who really have it together have serious Facebook profiles, Fan Pages and Groups. There are several apps and software available that can jazz up Facebook profiles and Fan pages for a modest price and if you can afford it, the cost is worth it. Don't play Facebook cheap, when it comes to your marketing agenda.

The Value Of Unsolicited Facebook Likes

Asking for Facebook Likes is not good and it is naïve to think that the number of ‘Likes’ is an essential element to a strategy.  You don’t know how many of those people are reading your posts, how many people you are reaching and changing behaviours of?  Engagement levels are slightly better but you still don’t know how many people are ‘lurkers’, who are listening, may be buying but are just not openly engaging on social media.  Or the ones who engage but don’t purchase.  It’s a conundrum.

Work for the ‘Like’
I’d suggest working for the ‘Like’.  In this case the call for ‘Likes’ came in an online group.  Why not start to post in the group, talk to people, show your expertise in your area.  I am more likely to take notice of what you are doing this way.  I’m never going to ‘Like’ you if you ask me.  Show me why I should ‘Like’ you, show me how are you going to add value to me?  That is what customers of all types want to see.
I also won’t be ranting on Twitter or blogging about you asking for my ‘Like’.
So, four reasons why you shouldn’t ask for a Facebook ‘Like’:
  1. Asking and seeing an increase in ‘Likes’ does not mean your social media strategy is successful
  2. People liking you does not mean that they are reading your posts or interested in your company or brand
  3. If you ask for ‘Likes’ can you guarantee that your posts are relevant and add the intended value?
  4. If you are measuring social metrics asking for originally non-intended ‘Likes’ to increase numbers will skew your results.

All of us who have Facebook Fan Pages desire as many people as possible to "Like" our Fan Page. Hopefully "Liking" our Fan Page will mean our posts and content will be read but most of the time that is not the case, particularly if we have just out and out asked for "Likes". I don't mind "Liking" someone's Fan Page if asked but that doesn't mean I am really interested in the content of their Fan page. My "Liking" of their Fan Page is basically just an acknowledgement of the efforts they have put in their Fan Page not necessarily that I will use the Fan Page content. Most of my Fan Page 'Likes" came with a Facebook advertising campaign. "Being sociable" Facebook Likes really don't' mean anything so I am not going to ask for "Likes" anymore in the future. Unsolicited Facebook "Likes" are what is of real value, as I see it.

Will You Be My Friend?

In my opinion more fans are better than fewer fans.  You can talk about “quality” all you want but you will not change my mind on this one.  The more fans you have the more likely you will develop new business or even create new friends.
Here are 3 ways you can increase your FaceBook Fans:

 Invite people.

 Promote your Fan Page everywhere.

 Use other social media channels.

Next to my blog, my Facebook Fan Page is my most important social media. Like my blog I try to provide "value content", especially from other networkers and marketers. It can be a challenge getting Facebook Fans without paying for them through Facebook Ads or other paid programs but it can be done, as the above article points out. Though I do use safe list mailers and traffic exchanges I am convinced that social media is the premier channel to share, connect and promote your Biz-Ops and programs. Social media is the only channel to establish real business relationships on the Internet, as I see it. Will you be my friend?
