Social Media Blunders

Are you driving people away from your social media profiles?

Social media levels the playing field and allows the low budget websites and small business brands the ability to shine in a competitive, large brand-driven web space.

Unfortunately, mistakes are plenteous and they are costing small businesses their reputation. The big brands have millions of dollars to pump into high-priced agencies, but how does a small business owner know if he is actually achieving a high level of success or making critical mistakes with social media?

The first way to know how to do something is to know how NOT to do it. These 10 social media blunders occur quite frequently.

 1. Too much repetition

 2. Clustered tweets/posts

 3. Unrequited hype

 4. Sales overload

 5. Too much brand-related content

 6. Infrequent posting

 7. Off-time posting

 8. Not talking back

 9. No sharing

 10. Twitter auto DMs

If there is a right way to do social media marketing there is also a wrong way to do social media marketing. Several salient social media mistakes are pointed out in the above article. Too much of anything is bad, especially when it comes to social media because too much posting borders on being spammy. Not being forthright and honest to the point of "over hyping" what we promote is a mistake in social media marketing. When we post is important because there are peak hours in the day to post on social sites. Not being interactive and not sharing other people's content is a very big social media marketing blunder. We all make mistakes but a wise man learns from his mistakes. Let's not make the same social media mistakes twice.
