Selling At The Country Club

Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and even Pinterest are opening up new opportunities for businesses to connect with consumers and for many companies social media marketing is becoming an increasingly important promotional strategy. With Facebook predicted to hit 1 billion users by August and Twitter claiming around 460,000 sign-ups per day, each and every one of them a potential customer, it simply makes sense for businesses to look for ways to work these huge crowds.

But social media marketing is about more than setting up an account and hawking your wares. In fact if that is all you did you probably wouldn’t make very many friends and in some instances it might even get you booted from the site. It’s important to do your research and have a strategy in place before you hop onto that social media highway.

1. Don’t Jump in Without a Plan.

2. Don’t Go Overboard

3. Don’t Spam

4. Don’t Neglect Communication

5. Don’t Forget to Build Your Fan Base

Social media marketing is not like selling at a flea market. Social media marketing is like selling at a country club. Flea market selling is static, finding sales through an eye catching table of your wares. Social media marketing is dynamic, finding sales in the process of sharing with others on various social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and or through personal blogs, pages or articles. Social media marketing requires a lot of thought, time and tactfulness but if your goal is to find genuine customers and referrals, social media marketing is worth the effort.
